Behind the Scenes: Egypt, Qatar, amended the proposal, to pressure Netanyahu

Egypt Daily News - An Israeli source told the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation that Hamas’ announcement of accepting the ceasefire proposal only constitutes pressure on Israel, after Netanyahu announced that he would reject this proposal.

He added that what happened behind the scenes, and after the reservations expressed by Hamas in recent days, Egypt and Qatar presented an updated proposal, without Israel’s approval.

He explained that one of the things that Hamas objected to was its demand from the mediators to confirm Israel's commitment to a ceasefire after the release of the kidnappers, and not to be satisfied with the text that has appeared so far, which spoke of "sustainable calm."

The source considered that with today's announcement by Hamas, the pressure will shift to Israel, which will be required to take a decision on this issue. A source familiar with the matter told the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation: “The matter is now in the hands of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”

In turn, Israeli Army Radio said that the proposal approved by Hamas has not been approved by Israel yet. Israeli Channel 12 quoted two Israeli officials as saying: “We will study Hamas’ answer. The current proposal differs from the formula approved by Israel.”

The two officials added that this is a far-fetched and unacceptable proposal for Israel.
