President Sisi congratulates President Erdogan on reelection

Ahram - President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi sent a message of congratulations to Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on winning reelection as president.

Turkey’s long-term leader Erdogan, 69, won reelections on Sunday in a historic runoff election, securing a third term in office until 2028. Erdogan won the runoff election by four percentage points against his secular opposition rival, Kemal Kilicdaroglu.

Egypt and Turkey have taken careful steps to normalize their bilateral relations after a decade of strained relations since the 2013 ouster of Egypt’s late Muslim Brotherhood president Mohamed Morsy.

In April, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said the two countries agreed on a timeframe for upgrading diplomatic relations during an official visit to Ankara.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said in a press conference with Shoukry during the visit that talks with Egypt have achieved substantial progress on the issue of appointing ambassadors for the two countries.

The two countries have also worked on fostering their economic relations and coordinating on regional issues, including in Palestine, Libya and Syria.
