Dr. Sharaqi shocks Ethiopians about the Renaissance Dam and responds to skeptics of the High Dam

EgyptDailyNews - Dr. Abbas Sharaqi, Professor of Geology and Water Resources at Cairo University, revealed the latest developments with the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

He wrote on his personal Facebook page under the title “Follow the lie of the Renaissance Dam” and said: “I wrote a few days ago about the lie of the Renaissance Dam and the failure of the Ethiopian people to benefit from it until now, despite the passing of 4 years since a lake was formed with 41billion cubic meters of water saved since last summer, only a limited and intermittent operation of two low turbines have functioned, the dam did not providing any drinking wate, given that most of the population live at levels higher than 2000 m from the Renaissance Dam lake, and not a single acre has been cultivated using the dam's water.

He added: "Someone came to us saying that the High Dam of Egypt took 11 years to build, and the Egyptian people did not benefit from it throughout the construction periods.

Is this ignorance, scheming, or an argument without knowledge? This type of argument is a gateway to hatred, and the following is a small part." Among the many benefits of the High Dam, whether during or after construction:

1- Diverting the course of the Nile on May 14, 1964 into a diversion canal and tunnels, beginning to store water in the lake, and protecting it from floods or drought.

2- Protecting Egypt from the 1967 flood, as the Nile’s reached 104 billion cubic meters, an increase of 20 billion cubic meters above the average of 84 billion cubic meters that used to flood Egypt.

3- Benefiting from stored water by adding half a million agricultural acres in 1965/1966, and another half a million in 1966/1967, and the areas continued to increase until they now reached more than 10 million acres, despite construction on some agricultural lands in the valley and delta.

4- Increasing the area of rice cultivation.

5- The first spark was launched from the High Dam power station in October 1967, and it began to power the governorates of Egypt, and water began to be completely stored in front of the dam since 1968.

6- Protecting archaeological areas and river islands from devastating floods.

7- Increasing Nile tourism and cultural activity.

8- Increasing the fish resources of Lake Nasser, even if it has not been fully exploited yet.

9- The construction of the High Dam and electrical units was completed on July 15, 1970.

10- President Sadat officially inaugurated the High Dam on January 15, 1971 after the death of President Abdel Nasser in September 1970. The benefits of the High Dam continued to build modern Egypt, protect it from floods and drought, mitigate the damage from the Renaissance Dam, provide pure drinking water, and bring about an agricultural and industrial revolution. ..and others.
