Iran launches more than 200 drones and missiles towards Israel

EgyptDailyNews - The Israeli army said that Iran has launched more than 200 drones and missiles at Israel since yesterday, Saturday, noting that it was possible to intercept many of them far from Israel’s borders, but added that drones and missiles continue to be launched by Iran.

Israeli Armed Forces spokesman Admiral Daniel Hajary said early Sunday that a limited number of dozens of Iranian surface-to-surface missiles had fallen in Israel, wounding a girl and causing minor damage to a military facility in the south.

However, the official Iranian News Agency (IRNA) reported that the most important air base in the Negev in southern Israel was subjected to “severe damage” after Iranian missiles hit it on Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

IRNA stated, “The most important air base in the Negev was hit by a Khaybar missile... Images and data indicate that severe damage occurred at this base.” Iranian state television reported that “according to the information received, half of the missiles launched successfully hit their target.”

A Reuters witness in Jerusalem heard explosions resulting from aerial interceptions of drones launched by Iran, which were broadcast by a local television station.
Israeli Army Radio said that sirens sounded 720 times in various locations as a result of the first batch of the Iranian attack.

Meanwhile, a senior Israeli official threatened Tehran, saying that Israel would respond forcefully to the unprecedented Iranian attack. Our correspondent said that the Israeli government has ended its emergency meetings and has authorized Prime Minister Netanyahu, Defense Minister Gallant and Benny Gantz to make decisions, including the decision on the Israeli response.

On the other hand, security sources told Reuters that the US army shot down a number of Iranian drones in the Suwayda and Daraa governorates in southern Syria, near the Jordanian border, from undisclosed bases in the region.

An interception over the skies of Amman

Explosions have been heard in the sky of the Jordanian capital, Amman. Two security sources in the region reported that Jordanian fighter jets fired on dozens of Iranian drones in northern and central Jordan on their way to Israel.

The two sources said that Jordanian air defenses are ready to intercept and shoot down any Iranian drones or aircraft that violate the Kingdom’s airspace. They added that the army is also on high alert and that radar systems are monitoring any drone activity coming from the direction of Iraq and Syria.

Residents of several cities in northern Jordan near Syria and the central and southern regions of the Kingdom heard the sound of intense air activity. A security source said that the Jordanian Air Force is intensifying its reconnaissance flights.

Jordan said earlier that it had closed its airspace as of Saturday evening to all incoming, departing and transiting aircraft, in what officials described to Reuters as precautionary measures in anticipation of an Iranian attack across its borders.

Muhannad Al-Mubaideen, Minister of Government Communications and spokesman for the government, said, “The competent authorities decided on Saturday evening to close the airspace to air traffic for precautionary reasons, due to the surrounding security conditions.”

Jordan denied media reports that a state of emergency had been declared in the Kingdom and said that this was “absolutely baseless.”
