Ahram - Tremors from a moderate 5.7 magnitude earthquake that struck southern Greece on Friday morning were felt as far away as Egypt, according to local media reports.

No casualties or property damage were reported. Residents in Alexandria and Matrouh governorates took to social media to report experiencing slight tremors. Others, however, said they didn’t feel any shaking.

The earthquake occurred 855 kilometers away from Egypt's Marsa Matrouh city at 9:12 am, with a depth of 25 kilometers, Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) said in a statement on Friday.

It originated off the coast of the western Peloponnese in southern Greece and was felt as far as Athens and the southern Crete island. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries in Greece.

According to the Athens Geodynamic Institute, the quake's epicenter was beneath the seabed near the Strofades islands, about 120 kilometers south-southwest of Patras city.
