Nine people were killed and nine others injured on Wednesday in a tragic accident in Cairo, when a passenger microbus, carrying 18 people, collided with a trailer truck on the middle Ring Road highway near 15 May City south of Cairo.

Security forces and ambulances rushed to the scene of the horrific accident to carry out rescue operations. The ambulances transported the injured to the hospital for treatment and the bodies of the victims.

The Public Prosecution has launched an investigation into the causes of the collision.

In recent years, the government has been working to reduce road accidents by improving road safety measures as part of national efforts to expand and upgrade the country’s road network.

In 2022, Egypt experienced an 8.7 percent rise in road accident injuries compared to the previous year, while railway-related injuries decreased by 28 percent during the same period, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS).
