"A Dangerous escalation" Egyptian response to Israel's control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing

Egypt Daily News - Hours after Israel stormed the Rafah crossing from the Palestinian side and raised their flag, the Egyptian House of Representatives issued a statement in which it held all concerned parties, especially the Israeli government, fully responsible for any action that leads to escalation of events and undermines the negotiations that reach a peaceful solution, as the Egyptian Foreign Ministry denounced.

Dr. Hanafi Jabali, Speaker of the House of Representatives, announced during the plenary session of Parliament, today, Tuesday, that Parliament is following what is happening regarding developments in the situation in the Palestinian territories, describing the Israeli aggression as a “humanitarian nightmare,” stressing that the Council is following with all interest the development of events during the twenty-fourth year. The last hour, which took different paths.

He added that the Hamas movement announced its acceptance of the truce in the Gaza Strip in response to the great Egyptian effort and the Egyptian-Qatari mediation, in preparation for ending the humanitarian nightmare that the people of the Gaza Strip have been grappling with for more than two hundred days.

Despite this, the Israeli government has warned the residents of the eastern neighborhoods in the Palestinian city of Rafah to immediately evacuate and head towards the center of the Gaza Strip, arrogantly hinting at a ground attack on the city, followed by launching air strikes east of the city and bombarding it.

The Council called on all parties to be well aware that we are dealing with extremely complex and highly sensitive situations, in which no party is the strongest or the most firmly established, and that there is no escape from adopting the language of dialogue and negotiation as a means of resolving differences, calling for listening to the voices of reason instead of the voice of weapons in order to reach an agreement.

It leads to an end to the human suffering experienced by the Palestinian people, the completion of the exchange of hostages and prisoners, and the beginning of a process that leads to the establishment of a Palestinian state.

The Egyptian Parliament appealed to the international community to break the shameful silence and adopt measures to prevent further crimes against the Palestinian people, and urged Israel to adopt a peace approach with the aim of reaching a peaceful and just solution to the Palestinian issue.

He praised the Egyptian role since the outbreak of events until now. We appreciate Egypt's efforts to achieve peace and stop bloodshed, which did not stop for a single moment despite the difficulties it faces.

The Egyptian Parliament also announced its support for the steps taken by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in preserving the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people away from gambling or bidding on those rights, and his constant striving to protect them.

Egyptian Foreign Ministry
On the other hand, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli military operations in the Palestinian city of Rafah, and the resulting Israeli control over the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing.

Egypt considered that this dangerous escalation threatens the lives of more than a million Palestinians who depend primarily on this crossing as it is the main lifeline of the Gaza Strip, and the safe outlet for the wounded and sick to exit to receive treatment, and for the entry of humanitarian and relief aid to the Palestinian in Gaza.

Egypt called on the Israeli side to exercise the utmost restraint, and to stay away from a policy of brinkmanship with long-term impact, which would threaten the fate of the strenuous efforts made to reach a sustainable truce inside the Gaza Strip.

Egypt called on all influential international parties to intervene and exert the necessary pressure to defuse the current crisis and allow diplomatic efforts to achieve their desired results.

The Israeli army announced, today, Tuesday, that it took complete control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah land crossing separating the Gaza Strip from Egyptian territory, in a military operation that it began yesterday.

Israeli military vehicles entered the Philadelphia axis for the first time since 2005, and thick smoke columns rose in an area near the Rafah land crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt as Israel intensified its artillery bombardment campaigns on Tuesday.
