Blinken: We are focusing on stopping the escalation and we did not participate in any attack

Egypt Daily News - US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Friday that the United States “did not participate in any offensive action” after the dawn explosions in central Iran that US officials and local media attributed to Israel.

Blinken explained in a press conference on the island of Capri, where a meeting of the G7 foreign ministers was held: “I will not speak about the events that were reported. All I can say is that our focus is on stopping the escalation.”

In another context, Blinken urged the rapid implementation of Israel's pledges regarding humanitarian aid in Gaza. He said that although some important steps had been taken, more sustainable results were needed.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said that the United States informed the G7 foreign ministers today that it had received “last-minute” information from Israel regarding a drone operation in Iran.

Tajani, who chaired the meeting of ministers of industrialized countries, added that the United States presented the information at a Friday morning session whose main topic was changed at the last minute to discuss the suspected attack.

Early Friday, Iranian air defense batteries were launched at a major air base and nuclear site near the city of Isfahan in the center of the country after monitoring drones suspected to be part of an Israeli attack in apparent response to Tehran’s unprecedented attack with drones and missiles on Israel at the end  of last week.

Tajani said the United States told G7 ministers that Israel “informed them at the last minute” about the drones, “but there was no participation in the attack by the United States, it was just information.”
