Biden: I call for a ceasefire in Gaza.. Netanyahu’s policy is wrong

EgyptDailyNews - In an interview on Tuesday, US President Joe Biden considered Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's policy in Gaza "wrong" and urged Israel to call for a ceasefire. Biden told the American Spanish-language network "Univision" when asked about Netanyahu's handling of the war, "I think what he is doing is wrong. I do not agree with his approach."

The US President reiterated during the interview that the killing of seven aid workers last week in an Israeli raid in Gaza working for a US-based charity was “terrible.” He added, "Therefore, what I am calling for is for the Israelis to call only for a ceasefire, and to allow, during the next six or eight weeks, full access to all food and medicine entering the country."

Biden's statements regarding the ceasefire represent a shift from his previous statements in which he said that the burden falls on Hamas to agree to a truce and an agreement to release the hostages. Last Thursday in a phone call Biden informed Netanyahu that US policy would be linked to Israel taking “immediate action” regarding civilians in Gaza. Sources say that the call was tense.

Before the call, the White House said that Biden felt anger and pain over the attack on the aid workers, but the US President did not make a fundamental change in Washington’s steadfast support for Israel in its conflict in the Gaza Strip.

Reuters quoted famous chef Jose Andres on Wednesday as saying that the Israeli attack that killed seven food aid workers in Gaza targeted them “systematically, one vehicle after another.”

Concern about the slow pace of aid arriving by land prompted the United States to implement airdrops of aid and establish a temporary dock to unload shipments arriving by sea.
