Iranian News Agency: The Revolutionary Guard took control of a ship belonging to Israel

EgyptDailyNews - The Iranian News Agency said that the Revolutionary Guard forces took control of a ship belonging to Israel, according to a breaking news broadcast by Cairo News.

The Associated Press said on Saturday that it had seen a video clip showing a raid by commando forces by helicopter on a ship near the Strait of Hormuz. The agency added that a defense official in the Middle East attributed the raid to Iran, amid broader tensions between Tehran and the West.

he British Army also warned, on Saturday, of the possibility of an unknown party boarding a ship near the Strait of Hormuz. The warning issued by Britain's Maritime Trade Operations did not provide any details about boarding the ship in the Gulf of Oman.

The defense official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters, shared the video with The Associated Press.  A British maritime authority attributed the seizure of the ship to “regional authorities,” without mentioning Iran by name.

Later, Israeli Army Radio said that the ship was safe. The incident comes amid escalating tensions between Iran and the West, especially after the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria.

Iran did not immediately acknowledge the seizure of any ship, and official media did not publish any report about the incident. However, since 2019, Iran has carried out a series of ship seizures and attacks on ships, amid ongoing tensions with the West over its rapidly advancing nuclear programme.
